Alsace Carcione Takes Home The Title of DDFW’S Master Of The Mic

Listen I am still hype from this past Saturdays DDFW Master Of The Mic contest! I didn’t even know anything about the show until the week of because I hadn’t been on social media for like a month. I also had no idea that this contest had been going on for months and this show was the last one with 6 finalist. Mark Spits and Madame Mims represented Fort Worth, Pudge Brewer and Ritchy Flo represented Denton, and Alsace Carcione and T. Lindsey represented Dallas. Celebrities D.O.C, Dorrough, and Erykah Badu were the judges. I wasn’t even going to do a review for it because I mainly went to show support for Alsace and knew I wasn’t going to be able to stay for the entire show. But I’m just so happy about her win that I had to make a post.

I got to Tree’s at 8:30 and the place wasn’t quite packed yet but the DJ already had people on the dance floor pop locking, break dancin, and dropping it like it’s hot  having a good time. After finding out the time that Alsace would be going on, my company and I decided to go across the street and eat some nachos at Fuzzy Taco’s (YUM 😛). We hung out there for almost an hour trying to pass the time then headed back to Tree’s. By then more people had packed in and a fella by the name of Mike Lackey was on the stage beat boxing and warming the crowd up. He did a good job, I have no complaints. But hey guy if you’re reading this, I would like to see more videos on your instagram page!

My company and I sat back and watched more people pour in and take pictures in front of the huge Master Of The Mic background. Different races, different styles, different ages, different everything was in the building. The place was filled with artist and people who loved art. It was quite a unique crowd and I loved every bit of it. My company, who is very picky about music, bobbed his head to DJ Snoopi’s mix and gave me the look of approval. The first act to hit the stage was Pudge Brewer from Denton. Unfortunately he didn’t hold my attention. I won’t say he was bad because I don’t think that at all. I was running into people that I knew and also chatting with my company so my attention just wasn’t fully on the stage.

Around 10:30 Alsace came full force starting her set off with a cover of “Killing Me Softly” and who else would be more appropriate to sing along other than her music partner Diva Sol. She then followed up with “Ain’t Goin” hyping the crowd up even more. THE BAND…OMG I mean they were amazing!  Even the host gave them their props.  I looked over at my company who was seriously enjoying “Black America” and “Been Grindin” (his fav) bobbin his head. Oh but when she did “Time Travel”…let’s just say there’s a reason I don’t have video footage for it because I was singing and dancing hard the whole time. And I saw you Alsace up there jiggin lol. The audience was absolutely feeling it too. Diva Sol went into straight up Rock Star mode during “Been Grindin” and started swingin her braids. Girl do you have whiplash after that lol? There was no surprise that she performed the song “Have Mercy” dedicated to her mother who is battling cancer, being as though this was such a special moment for her. As I watched Alsace take over the crowd, I couldn’t have been more proud of her. By the end of her performance both me and my company looked at each other and said she’s got this.

Next up was Madame Mims, who to me seemed like she got a bigger introduction than the previous artist, but that’s neither here nor there. Her style is different and maybe even a little eccentric. It was something that I think I would have needed to listen to before seeing it performed. Honestly transitioning from Alsace to Madame Mims had me feeling like my high was coming down. And I’m not just saying this because I’m a fan of Alsace. A performance is a performance regardless of who I’m familiar with and not familiar with. It just seemed like a slow start. Like when you’re watching a movie and you’re like COME OOOON GET TO THE GOOD PART. I will say she had a nice flow though, there is no denying that. I left shortly after so I didn’t get a chance to see her full set and I hate I missed the others as well. My company really wanted to see some of the other male artist but it was getting late and he had work in the morning so we had to burn out. When I woke up the next morning and saw the good news I literally shouted.

Even though I didn’t get to see the other acts, I’ve seen the hard work Alsace puts in day in and day out to reach her goals (in her personal life and as an artist). That, along with the way she captured the crowd while going from one sound to the next and transfered her energy and emotion into the crowd, was more than enough for me to feel that she deserved the title of Master Of The Mic. The first ever to be exact. Congratulations again champ 🙂

To the other finalist reading this, so sorry I missed your performance and congrats on making it to the final round. Hopefully I’ll get to catch you guys at your next show. I’m especially looking forward to seeing Terrence because I have been seeing all the buzz online about him.

I know usually I post the videos below via Youtube but I have actually already posted them on my Facebook page so you can head over there and check them out at http://www.facebook.com/shelly80sbaby2
Thanks for reading and don’t forget to like, comment, and share 🙂

Concert Review: J. Cole @ Gexa Energy Pavilion/Forest Hills Drive Tour

J. Cole put on a great show and had everyone super hype last Sunday (August 23rd) at Gexa Energy Pavilion. I gathered so much footage that I literally could let the videos speak for the review. I damn near recorded the whole show lol. But I’m not going to do that I’m still going to give y’all a lil sumthin sumthin lol.

I had originally bought two tickets for my boyfriend and me at the time, and since he wasn’t able to make it I had to ask a bunch of people at the last minute did they want to go so the other ticket wouldn’t be a waste. Everybody seemed to be busy or just couldn’t make it. At one last attempt I made a facebook post asking did anyone want to go with me, do you know only one person responded!!! Shout out to my homie! Thanks for going with me! But unfortunately he didn’t get off work until 7:00 and the concert started at 6:30. I know, kinda early compared to other shows I’ve attended. I’m assuming because it was on a Sunday. We didn’t arrive to the gates until 7:17 and by that time we had missed the opening act, which was YG. I wasn’t too worried about it because I don’t follow his music much but my friend was highly disappointed. I had never been to the Gexa Energy Pavilion so I didn’t know what to expect. So many people were strolling in late just like us. Once we got inside I was surprised to see all the concession stands and it kinda reminded me of the fair. The fair and the Pavilion are right next to each other so it makes sense. After we grabbed our food and drinks we headed to our seat just in time to hear Big Sean hit the stage around 7:30.

Big Sean’s set was….cute. I’m not a huge Big Sean fan and hadn’t really paid too much attention to his music other than what I’ve heard on the radio. I don’t know why but his voice is a little annoying to me so it’s only so long I can listen to him rap. But after seeing his performance I am interested into listening to more of his music. His beats are really good and some of the music that I hadn’t heard before had my head bobbin. What I didn’t like about his set was it was entirely TOOOO MUCH FOG! I mean like how we was supposed to see you Sean? I had good seats mind you but in order to actually see him I had to look up on the big screens that they had, which by the way was always a few seconds off. I could see his body but not clearly. And it didn’t make for good video either. Nor did the other special effects he had like the bright flashing lights. At least not on my little 13MP camera. It was just a lot going on. Kinda seemed too extra. The stage props were cool. During his performance he talked about Dallas being the other D-Town besides Detriot and his love for the city. Overall his performance was cool, he had great energy, and it was just enough to get the crowd hype for the main act.

J. Cole opened up with his Intro to his latest album Forest Hills Drive and proceeded to perform the entire album along with “Lights Please” and “In the Morning” from his early mixtapes. The crowd sang/rapped along to every single lyric and you could tell J. Cole was overwhelmed by all the love. The humble artist joked about not actually knowing where “St. Tropez” was and not knowing what the abbreviation for LED lights means. He also preached about hood mentality and appreciating what you have instead of complaining about what you don’t have. He brought out Jeremih toward the end of his set to do their new hit song “Planes”. At first I thought Jeremih was listed on the show because he was going to be the opening act. I don’t think he performed first but I’m not completely sure because we got there so late. I don’t think he did though when you consider the time Big Sean started. J. Cole did like most artist do and played like the show was over but came back out to do “Crooked Smile”, “Can’t Get Enough”, “Work Out”, and closed the show with “Power Trip”. I liked J. Cole’s performance the best not just because I’m a big fan and he was the main act, but because I could actually see him! LOL. His visuals in the background were really dope too. Made for good pics.

Even though my friend left the show early to try to beat the traffic, we still wound up sitting in it for awhile AFTER I was walking for what felt like 30 mins trying to find him. Even though I didn’t go with who I was supposed to I was able to shake it off and enjoy the show. As a fan I’m proud of J. Cole and how far he’s come. The Forest Hills Drive album is a great album from start to finish and this show represented it very well. Now even though this is somewhat unrelated, I can’t wait til Kendrick Lamar brings his butt back to Dallas. Drake too.  Anywho check out the links, pics, and videos below….

Concert Review: Lyfe Jennings @ Medusa in Dallas, TX

The grown and sexy was in the building at Medusa this past Thursday for Lyfe Jennings show. There were definitely a lot of lovers there too, I’m assuming because it was two days before Valentine’s Day. I called myself wanting to get inside early so I could get a seat because I really wasn’t in a turn up type of mood, but I unfortunately got hung up in the parking lot across from the club. Usually there is a parking attendant there and you just hand your money to them and they give you a ticket. Well I guess the city or whoever owns that parking lot decided they didn’t wanna pay people to stand out there anymore and replaced them with an electronic parking meter. It was cold as hell, the birds above me freaked me out a little (I was afraid I’d get pooped on), and people were taking forever in this long ass line. I finally made it inside around 9:15 and all the seats where taken. I heard DJ Phil on the one’s and two’s so I decided to make my way up to the DJ Booth to say hi. After speaking I headed back downstairs and copped me a seat and crowd watched. Once again nobody wanted to get out on the dance floor so they all just stood around it and danced where they were standing. It literally was only two couples who didn’t give a damn, they went ahead and stepped to the music on the dance floor. After some time DJ Phil said something like “alright y’all ready for Lyfe Jennings to hit the stage” and literally everybody started rushing to the stage. I looked at the time and I knew it was too early but I followed suit because I wanted a good spot.

KJ Midday from 105.7 came out to introduce Lyfe and promote the stations cash giveaway and after she stepped off the stage a guy in the audience decided he was gonna start singing one of Lyfe’s songs super loud. The crowd joined in and next thing you know seemed like all of Medusa was singing along. Lyfe jumped on the mic and said “sound like y’all done started without me” and then made his way on the stage around 10:30. He started out with his song “My Life” and sang about 8 songs along with a few snippets. Of course he closed the show with his hit “Must Be Nice”. Lyfe is known for his realness and his lyrics being relate-able and he kept it real and let us know he did not have a specific format/order to how he was gonna perform.Throughout the show he struggled with the mic and we kept getting that high pitched feedback through the speakers. At first he was too low and he kept asking them to turn him up, seemed like he asked about 5 times. Then it seemed too loud at one point. Nevertheless he sounded great and so did his background singers. During the song “S.E.X.” he took a backseat and let his background singer Ms. Netta have the spotlight for a moment and she did her thing.

All in all it was a good show even with the technical difficulties. I wish he would’ve sang all of “Hypothetically” but it’s all good. The only other thing I didn’t like was I was standing next to a girl who decided she was gonna sing loud in my ear. Girl I came to hear Lyfe not you. Honestly because of the technical difficulties he asked the crowd to sing along and seemed like the whole crowd did. Tickets were about $30 and it was pretty packed but not so packed that it was uncomfortable. The show ended around 11:30. Check out the links, pics, and videos below and don’t forget to like, share and comment…

Sidenote: Sooo after the show they said Lyfe would be taking pics with fans in the VIP section so I moseyed on over there and made sure I was RIGHT on the rope. I figured a pic with him would be good for the blog. When I tell y’all those girls pushed and shoved and acted like wild animals, I just couldn’t take it anymore. Especially since there seemed to be a certain “type” he was choosing to take pics with once he got there. No shade but you would have thought it was Trey Songz or Chris Brown the way those women were actin. I was like bump this I’m goin home, it ain’t that deep to me.

B.O.B @ Winstons Supperclub in Dallas TX

Oh What A Night! (In My Missy Elliot Voice) B.O.B aka Bobby Ray had the club going up this past Saturday at Winston’s Supper Club in Uptown Dallas. This was my second time at Winston’s and I swear it gets LIVE! When they have someone there performing it feels like a huge house party. Me and my girl made sure we were front in center and it definitely paid off! Get into these details lol…

B.O.B Winstons

So we originally was set to go to the Kwanzaa Fest at Fair Park but by the time we were ready to go we looked online to see what the crowd was like and it was already too packed at noon. It was to the point where we probably wouldn’t have been able to see anything. We had heard the main person we wanted to see, which was B.O.B, would be at Winston’s later that night. So we were like scratch Kwanzaa fest, let’s go turn up at the club lol. We met up at Winston’s around 10:30 and it was pretty empty. And it pretty much stayed empty for a good minute, I don’t think people really started pouring in until 11:30. Several selfies and three drinks later, one of which included a free Pineapple Ciroc from the club and it was bomb, the place was packed and B.O.B walked right by me around 12:45 and I automatically yelled out “OH SH!T”. LOL I have never been star struck but I promise I was that night. My grown 31 year old ass felt like a teenager at an Immature concert. Yes I said Immature.

He came in there with his entourage along with Teyana Taylor who also performed at the Kwanzaa Fest earlier that day. Teyana Taylor was such a sweetheart. Every time I took a pic of her she looked and smiled for the camera and not once did I even call her name. She also took a pic with my homegirl but unfortunately due to all the movement around me the pic came out a little blurry. Once B.O.B got situated he hopped on the mic and got the party started by passing out shots to everybody. If I’m not mistaken the theme was Birthday Celebration and Teyana Taylor’s birthday did just pass. His big gold chain was swangin and his hat sliding off as he performed “Headband”, “Paranoid”, and “We Still In This B*tch” and even got down in the crowd to rock with us. I was always a fan of B.O.B’s but he has gained a die-hard fan now. He done messed up and made me feel special by making eye contact at least about 5 times. I guess it wasn’t hard to do being as though I was right in front of him. I had to go home and stalk his Instagram smh. But man oh man when he waved at my homegirl though she damn near died on the floor lol. Oh let me not forget to mention the hoopla and madness he created Friday after posting a pic of him and sweatpants with the hashtag #eggplantfriday. I’m not sure if he created that trend but Instagram went wild. I caught a few people starrin at his crotch lol.

B.O.B Eggplant

My only complaint about the whole night is this blower thing that Winston’s uses. It’s like a mist with confetti in it, like a confetti cannon. Unfortunately I seemed to be directly in front of it. I mean I guess it would be cool for people who were hot, which I wasn’t, but it was just a bit much for me. Also sometime after his performance when everybody was just dancing, I looked over at my friend and she was like “SAVE ME SAVE ME!” This guy was hunchin, yes hunchin on her so I slowly pulled her away and kinda backed him up off her. Tell me why this fool proceeds to hunch on me lol. I mean he was really like a horny little dog that hunches on your leg. So then she pulled me away and we moved on the other side, far away from him lol. All in all I had THE best time and it was only $10 to get in and enjoy this unforgettable experience. Jagged Edge @ Medusa in Dallas

Weird. Weird. Weird….

Ok so I got inside the club around 9:30, met up with my homegirl, grabbed a drink and then moved close to the dance floor. Tell me why everyone was standing around the dance floor but no one would go out there and dance. I mean it was this big ass circle around the dance floor and people were just two stepping where they were standing. My homegirl was like “what is this high school prom?” It was a hot mess. The DJ was really trying to throw out songs that make people get on the dance floor but these people wouldn’t budge. Next thing I know it was 10:00 which was when I was told the show would start and I saw people setting things up on the stage, so I told my homegirl “man let’s just go on out there and get our spot”. SOOOOON as we got on the dance floor everybody came flooding in like a stampede. We just looked at each other like REALLY…REALLY?

20141009_224111 20141009_223913

Jagged Edge came on stage around 10:30 and I couldn’t even tell you what song they started out with. I don’t know. I have no clue. I will say they looked great, and besides a few muffled moments here and there, they sounded great too. A lot of times when you see artist now who came out back in the 90’s they look all out of shape and sometimes it’s a drastic difference in the way they look now compared to back then. But these guys looked good. Although I’m not into beards so I wasn’t feeling that beard Kyle was rockin. Anywho the fellas are promoting their new album J.E. Heartbreak II with the first single called “Hope” which they did sing at the concert. It took me listening to it a second time to like it and appreciate it. The first J.E. Heartbreak was/is the shiznit so I’m sure this one will be too. It will be available October 27th and I will be downloading because I’ve already heard snippets on their Facebook page and I liiike. Other songs they did at the concert was “Wednesday Lover”, “Promise”, “Let’s Get Married”, “He Can’t Love You”, and “Nice and Slow” by Usher which the twins co-wrote (Who knew that? lol). They ended the show with “Where The Party At” sometime around 11:00. During the show I wound up moving further away from the stage because being right on the stage made it hard for me to get all of them in the video. So I let two women get in front of me. If I would rate the show from 1-10 I would give it a 7. Here’s why…

During the show one of the twins was constantly looking at his phone majority of the time. I can’t tell you which one it was, I can only describe him as the thicker/heavier twin. I noticed as soon as he came on the stage he had the mic in one hand and his phone in the other. I was thinking maybe he was going to take a pic or video of the crowd but that wasn’t it. He kept looking at it all throughout the show and all I could think was is something wrong. I’m sure not many people noticed it, but for someone like me who blogs about concerts it’s my job to pay attention to detail. So because I noticed it, it was hard for me to really turn up like everyone else and really focus on just the performance. Then there was a moment where he stood back by the DJ while the others sang up closer to the audience. Even the DJ was looking at him like bro you alright? Then they had like this intermission where the DJ engaged with the crowd (a part of the show that I could’ve went without) but this same twin left off the stage while the other three remained. Once the intermission was over they kinda stalled before singing the next song until he came back on the stage. I honestly don’t know what to make of all this. Maybe he was waiting on a phone call IDK. It’s very clear to see in the videos (excuse the base I’m still working on that) exactly what I’m talking about. Theeen a couple times I felt like when it came to the ad libs they were singing over each other. It was a lot of “wooo yeah” Jodeci style that I didn’t care for either. Kyle seemed to be into the choreography more than anyone lol. In one of my videos you can see one of the twins stumble on another person but hey the stage is small so I don’t count that.

*sigh* IDK… for a $30 ticket I ain’t trippin. Would I go see them again, maybe. If I do I won’t be focused on trying to record so maybe it will be better. Peep the links and videos below. The first two videos will show you what I’m talkin about. Don’t forget to like and share 🙂

Concert Review: Luke James @ The House Of Blues/Dallas TX

First off let me say the video I was able to record doesn’t do this show any justice. All the artist did such a great job and it honestly felt like I was at a big house party. I hardly think anyone left out of there disappointed. Anywho let’s get into the review…

Although he should be, Luke James is one of those artists that unfortunately isn’t well known yet so I was a little surprised that the concert was going to be at the House Of Blues. Based on the couple of times that I have been to the House Of Blues it was for artist with a larger fan base. I mean even though he has a lot of fans there still are times when I mention him to people and they don’t know who I’m talking about.  Once I got inside it made a lot more sense to me. I got there at around 8:15 but didn’t go inside til around 8:30 because of some confusion outside, and they guided us upstairs to a lounge like area with a stage and a bar. There were some people there already but not many. After I got my drink people started moving closer to the stage since the concert was set to start at 9:00. I wanted to get a good view too so I decided to move close to the stage as well. While waiting I looked around at the crowd, which was cliqued up or coupled up, and I spotted an old co-worker by herself and motioned for her to join me. We chatted up until the opening act came out. Hell I didn’t even know there was going to be an opening act so it was a nice surprise.

20141005_210256 20141005_211448

Alsace Carcione and Diva-Sol hopped on the stage around 9:30 and set the mood just right. Alsace is a femcee who is originally from Virginia but has been living in Dallas for the past 10 years. It’s hard to describe they’re unique style but I would say that this duo was giving Floetry, Lauryn Hill, Erykah Badu, and throwback hip hop all mixed together. I’m not quite sure if they are a permanent duo or if they are separate artist just temporarily working with each other. Nonetheless the both moved the crowd. The lyrics were on point and the sound was most definitely feel good music. Later on after the show I made sure to get Alsace Carcione’s info so I could follow her journey as an artist. I’m always interested in underground music. Miss Diva-Sol sang her ass off! I was recording and trying to hold my composer because I wanted to just yell YAAASSSS GIRL YOU BETTA SANG! But I didn’t want to mess up my video lol. I look forward to hearing more from these two. Their set lasted I’ll say a good 30 mins and Luke James came on not too long afterwards.

UPDATE: The artists are two solo artist and not a group but they have been working with each other for well over 5 years.

20141005_220547 20141005_220750 20141005_220735

Luke James stepped on the stage and the crowd went nuts (by now it was a lot of people there) and he started the show off with the first song on his self-titled album “Love XYZ”. During the beginning of the show he asked that we let loose and feel, stating that he sensed some of the people in the crowd were a little uptight. He told us to leave our cares behind and worry about the here and now and have a good time tonight. He continued with his singles “Exit Wounds”, “Options” (which if you didn’t know was a song about the option to abort a baby. Awesome lyrics), and “Dancing in the Dark”. The Grammy nominated singer also performed some of his older released singles and songs off of his mix tape Whispers In The Dark. When he performed “Make Love to Me” I felt like I was in the Good Times photo at someones basement house party. The crowd grooved from side to side as we all absorbed the good vibes. Luke James had plenty of energy as he took us from sexual healing, to feeling gangsta/hood and turning up, to comedy, and to church with a few Hallelujahs’. Halfway through the show (you may notice this in the videos) my feet were hurting so bad and then I also started getting cramps in my side, so I had lose my place and go sit down on one of the nearby couches. I had been standing there feeling hot too and once I started feeling nauseated I knew it was time to move. I sat down for about 5 mins and enjoyed the sound of his voice as he performed his version of Sam Smith’s “Stay with Me” and then stood back up to record and watch the rest of the show. He closed out the show with his single “I Want You” and provided us with those high pitch vocals that we LIVE for.

Sugar-Shack_Ernie-Barnes_Good-Times

Once the crowd started leaving I went to find my old co-worker who was waiting for Luke James to come back out. I was confused because I thought the show was over but low and behold he reappeared and performed one last song. Problem is I could not tell you what the heck it was. It had a Prince sound to it and was about a forever kind of love. After the song he let the crowd know that he would be taking pictures with whoever had the album downloaded from iTunes on their phone. Being as though I don’t have an Iphone and my feet was still killing me, I hugged my co-worker goodbye and made my exit. She later text me telling me that he kissed her on the cheek and she got her pic. Overall I would say besides me getting sick, this was one of the best concerts that I’ve been to so far. Definitely got my $30 worth and would love to see him again. Peep all the links and videos below…

 tumblr_ma3c1aVIOj1r3npvv KandiSideEye-sips-tea-gif

Sidenote: Let’s get into the ratchetness that occurs at the end of the show. During pretty much the whole show I could hear someone to my right being loud as hell, which is expected at a concert. But I’ve felt like once the music is lowered and the artist is talking, not involving the audience, but just trying to be sensual, this is not the time to turn up and interrupt the artist. So during the last performance of the Prince type song, I hear a loud mouth yelling “SHUT UP BOY! SHUT UP BOY! YOU AIN’T PRINCE! SHUT UP!” I turn my head to see wtf is going on and it was an old classmate of mine from high school. OMG I covered my face with my hand as if I was embarrassed and couldn’t believe it. So not cool. This girl has always claimed to be classy so I was a little shocked by her behavior and I wondered was she drunk and if she was the one I had been hearing all night. IDK but I hope that I’m never in a small setting like that with her again after that.

Guys I hope you enjoyed the review and don’t forget to like, share, and subscribe so that you can receive emailed updates.

Donell Jones @Medusa In Dallas TX

This particular show I ain’t gonna lie, I was not in the mood to go to. I had been doing homework and writing papers and just wanted to chill at the house. But I don’t like wasting money, not even a lil bit so I put my big girl panties on and dragged myself to the show.  I was thinkin if I didn’t go I’d be kicking myself for it later on. The tickets were $25 which was not much but still. I didn’t make it a point to rush to get there after my experience at the Jon b show with him not showin up until 12. I met my homegirl in the parking lot and we headed on into the venue around 10:30. Medusa is a club that has changed names and owners to my knowledge at least 3 times. It used to have a younger crowd full of teens and 20 year olds. The last time I was there when it was another name I had a not so pleasant experience so I did frown a little when I learned Donell Jones was performing here.

Once we got into the club….UGH! Okay this place really needs to get a better system going and figure out a better way to handle checking tickets. We stood there for about 15 minutes along with several other people frustrated as hell at how slow and seemingly unorganized they were. Next thing we know while we’re still standing there waiting on these people to get it together, we here “WELCOME TO THE STAGE DONELL JONES!!!” I gave my homegirl the look like are you serious??? Lesson learned you never know when an artist is gonna be early or late. They finally let us in while he was still singing his first song. The crowd was full of grown folks. Some were VERY GROWN and obviously on that brown liquor lol. The interior of the club hadn’t changed much mainly just the audience. The style of the club was more grown and sexy but the setup was the same basically. I got me a drink and we headed closer to the crowd in front of the stage.

Donell Jones was giving so much sexy and swag (even though I hate to use that word) and gave really good stage presence.  The black suit, hat, and dimples just did it for me. WHEW! MM MM MM! He looked very in shape, like he lost weight since the last time I saw him. The first two songs I didn’t recognize and it was hard to even hear what he was saying because the music was so loud. It was also hard not to notice the very young looking DJ behind him on stage. My friend and I assumed it may have been his son. The rest of songs I could hear him well and he sounded just as good as he does on the record. He hit the high notes good and even though he worked the stage very well he didn’t seem out of breath. At one point I looked around and realized we were surrounded by couples slow dancing with each other. I felt some type of way but had to shake it off. His DJ seemed a little inexperience, which I’m not surprised because of how young he looked but he did ok. There was this one awkward moment where I’m not sure if he messed up or if Donell Jones just decided on his own to play another song.  During one song some lady threw her panties on the stage and he was like I’m not sure if my wife will like this but don’t tell her I took them lol. He sang a total of about 11 or 12 songs including “You Know That I Love You”, “Love Like This”, “Where I Wanna Be”, and ended with a snippet of “You Know” off his latest 2013 album titled Forever. He also sang “U Know What’s Up” and I thought he was gonna say something like RIP Left Eye since she did do the remix with him but he didn’t. I’ll list all the songs he sang at the bottom like usual.

The show closed around 11:45 so he was up there for about an hour. While we were headed back to the parking lot a group of people behind us were complaining. One guy in particular was yelling and cursing saying he wanted his money back and that Donell Jones hardly sang. And he kept saying he had the crowd sing the songs for him and the music was too loud. Well I don’t know where he was standing but the music was only too loud to me in the beginning. And yes he did engage the crowd and had them sing a couple of times, but not during the whole show. I feel like I got my money’s worth. I mean I didn’t go to club and dance, I went only for the show. I wouldn’t mind seeing him again. I’m glad I got up and went. Check the links below :-)…
