DMA Late Night Block Party

If you enjoy live music, a big crowd, good food, and art this is where you need to be every 3rd Friday of the month! It’s for all ages from 6pm-Midnight and it’s FREE! Well everything but the food and parking. You can enjoy the exhibits and programs inside the museum or hang out and socialize outside and just enjoy the atmosphere and live music. The Klyde Warren Park is a nearby hang out spot also.

I suggest getting there early because I got there around 7:45 and all the decent priced close parking lots were full. I wound up paying $15 and had to walk like a block or two. Plus I missed the Dallas Mavericks street team and cheerleaders and the drummers. So I’m assuming that whatever big thing they have going on every month will be in the beginning. What I liked most about the atmosphere is that it reminded me a little bit of back home in Philly. In Philly they throw block parties all the time, except this one here was on a larger scale. No craziness or fighting, just good vibes all around. It’s something to do when you just want to get out of the house and have a good time without spending a bunch of money.

All of the food smelled so good it was hard for me to pick what I wanted to eat, but I wound up stopping at this food truck named Rock’ Rick’s. Let me tell y’all…THAT JAMAICAN BURGER WAS THE BOMB! I’m not even a big burger person but it was nice and juicy and messy lol. The pineapple gave it that special touch. (Peep the pics below). My daughter got a Philly Cheesesteak which was ok but I’m a tough critic on those because it’s rare that I find a place (besides my brothers’ shop) here in Dallas that makes them like back home. I’ll place a link below so you can get an idea of the prices. My total for food and drinks was $17. They do have a Café inside the museum but I wanted to try the food truck.

The other thing that I liked is inside the museum they had a section where people could create art if they wanted to or observe others making art. There were two sections that I found the most interesting. One was this display that held cards with questions and answers on it from visitors. You were to take a card and read the question, then answer it however you wanted and doodle on it too if you wanted to, and then place it on the wall for everyone to see. The other section was a display of art made by visitors and you could take a piece of art already made and replace it with the one you made. Plus it’s always interesting to see ancient artifacts and learn a little about different cultures. We explored Decorative Art, Pre-Columbian, African, Asian, and others. Seeing the Peruvian counting system was a trip. It makes you really appreciate evolution.

PREPARE TO HAVE ON WALKING SHOES! We walked around that place, up and down stairs, and thru what seemed to be a maze for a good hour AND STILL DIDN’T FINISH SEEING IT ALL. Which was fine by us because we plan to go next month. By the time we were done I was ret to go because my dogs was barkin. I think next time I won’t be takin the kiddo though cause I wanna get my drink on. None the less we all had a great time and I look forward to next month. Links below for more info…
